Step-by-step instructions to prepare dal palak

Ingredients:-

  • Toor Dal – ½ cup
  • Brown Lentil – ¼ cup
  • Masoor Dal – ¼ cup
  • Water – 2 cups
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
  • Palak –  500 gm
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Cumin – 1 tsp
  • Minced Ginger – 1 tbsp
  • Minced Garlic – 2 tsp
  • Green Chili – 2
  • Onion – 1 medium
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
  • Kashmiri chili powder – 1 & ½ tsp
  • Tomato – 2 medium
  • Salt

For Tempering

  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Cumin – 1 tsp
  • Dry Red Chili – 2
  • Hing – ¼ tsp

Preparation:-

  • Step 1. To a bowl, add ½ cup toor dal, ¼ cup brown lentil, ¼ cup masoor dal. Wash and strain water then transfer to a pressure cooker. Next, add 2 cups of water, salt, and ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder. Pressure cook until 5 whistles.
  • Step 2. Open the pressure cooker after the pressure is completely released. Set aside well-cooked lentils. Chop 500 gm palak finely into small pieces and set aside.
  • Step 3. Heat a kadai on medium flame and add 2 tablespoons of oil, 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1 tablespoon of minced ginger, 2 teaspoons of minced garlic, 2 green chilies, and 1 medium onion, saute until golden color then add ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon of coriander powder, 1 & ½ teaspoons of Kashmiri chili powder, and 2 medium tomatoes. Cook until mushy.
  • Step 4. Next, add spinach to the kadai. Mix well and add salt to taste. Now add cooked dal to kadai. Pour water if required, mix well, and simmer for 5 minutes. Now the delicious dal palak is ready.
  • Step 5. For tempering dal palak, heat a small kadai on medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of oil, 1 teaspoon of cumin, 2 red dry chilies, and  ¼ teaspoon hing. Pour into dal palak and cover it for a few minutes. Now the delicious dal palak is ready to serve. serve with rice or chapati. Thank you.
