The renowned South Indian cuisine Guntur Chicken Curry originates in the Guntur area of Andhra Pradesh. Spicy and fragrant chicken curry created with a unique combination of spices and herbs. Due to its distinct flavor and scent, the dish has gained popularity in various regions of South India, especially Tamil Nadu. Guntur Chicken Curry is served with rice or roti, making it the perfect side dish for any dinner.

Ingredients and Preparation of Guntur Chicken Curry

Ingredients:-

For Marination
  • Chicken – 1 kg
  • Turmeric – 1 tsp
  • Chili – 1/2 tsp
  • curd – 2 tbsp
  • salt as required
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp
Whole spices
  • Coriander seeds – 2 tbsp
  • peppercorns – 1 tbsp
  • green cardamom – 3 
  • Cloves – 5
  • Cumin seed – 1 tsp
  • fennel seeds – 1 tsp
  • cinnamon stick – 4 small 
  • star anise – 1
  • Kashmiri chili – 8
  • coconut – 2 tbsp
For Preparation
  • Oil – 3 tbsp
  • Onion – 2 medium 
  • green chili – 2 
  • Guntur chili – 6 
  • curry leaves 
  • ginger garlic paste – 2 tbsp
  • water – 1 cup
  • salt
  • Tomato – 1 
  • coriander leaves

Preparation:-

1. Marinate Chicken with Turmeric powder, chili powder, curd, salt, and Ginger Garlic paste. 

2. Dry roast spices, Coriander seeds, Peppercorns, Green cardamom, Cloves, Cumin seeds, Fennel Seeds, Cinnamon sticks, Star Anise, Kashmiri chili, and Coconut. Roast for 2 mins in medium flame and transfer to a grinding jar. Grind to a fine powder and set aside.

3. Heat Kadai, add oil when oil is heated up add chopped onions, green chili, curry leaves, and the main ingredient Guntur chilies, saute for a while, and add Ginger garlic paste saute and cook until the onions change color. 

4. Add the marinated chicken along with ground masala mix well, add tomato and salt cover, and cook for 5 minutes.

5. After 5 mins of cooking pour water, cover, and cook again for another 10 minutes or until the chicken is cooked.

6. After 10 minutes, Garnish with coriander leaves.
