Wash and Soak Basmati Rice and Dal for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes transfer rice and dal to a pressure cooker pour 3 cups of water and salt as per taste. Pressure cook for 3 Whistles. Open once pressure is completely released.
For making khichdi pour 3 tbsp oil into a heated pan. Add mustard seeds and allow to splutter, then add cumin seeds, ginger, and garlic and saute for 1 minute.
Next add onions, dry red chili, curry leaves, and green chili. cook until onions turn golden.
Once onions change color add tomato, and cook until soft and mushy.
Next, add the masalas. turmeric powder, coriander powder, chili powder,garam masala, and aamchur powder. Cook for a few seconds until the raw smell of masala goes off.
Next, add cooked rice and dal along with 1 cup of water, stir well, Simmer, and cook for 2 minutes, check salt add if required. Garnish with coriander leaves.
Now let’s make the tadka, to a tadka pan add 1 tbsp of ghee, and keep the flame low as the ghee melts add curry leaves, dry red chili, and crushed chili. Switch off flame and pour tadka over khichdi.
Dal Khichdi is ready to serve, transfer to the serving dish garnish with coriander leaves and fried onions, and serve hot.
