Step-by-step Instructions to make dal tadka recipe

Ingredients:-

  • Toor dal – 3/4 cup
  • Masoor dal – 1/4 cup
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • water – 2 cups
  • salt
  • Ghee – 2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 & 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger Minced – 1/2 tsp
  • Garlic Minced –  1 tsp
  • Bay Leaf – 1 
  • Onion – 1 medium
  • Dry Kashmiri red chili – 2
  • Dry red chili – 2 
  • Kashmiri chili powder – 1 & 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Tomato – 1 medium
  • Coriander leaves
  • Garam Masala – 1/4 tsp
  • Roasted Kasoori Methi – 1/4 tsp

Instructions:-

1. Wash and strain 3/4 cup toor dal and 1/4 cup moong dal, add both to the pressure cooker, pour 2 cups of water, add salt, and add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Cover and pressure cook up to 4 whistles. Open the lid after the entire pressure has been released. Using a ladle or spatula, mash the dal.

2. To a heated pan add 1 tsp ghee, when ghee melts add half a teaspoon cumin, add half teaspoon minced ginger, 1 teaspoon minced garlic, and one bay leaf saute for a while, and add chopped onions, add 2 dried Kashmiri red chilies, and saute until the onions turn golden.

3. Once the onions turn golden add seasoning  1/2 teaspoon of Turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon of coriander powder, and 1 teaspoon of Kashmiri chili powder saute until the raw smell of spices goes off.

4. Add 1 medium-sized chopped tomato, add salt, and cook until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.

5. Once the tomatoes turn soft, add the cooked dal and mix well. Allow simmering after adding the coriander leaves. Add a quarter teaspoon of garam masala and 1/2 teaspoon of roasted Kasuri methi, mix well, and switch off the flame.

6. Next prepare the tadka, for that to a heated tadka pan add 1 teaspoon of ghee as the ghee melts add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, as cumin starts to splutter add 2 dry red chili half teaspoons of chili powder, and finally some chopped coriander leaves. Swirl the tadka pan and pour the tadka over the dal. Simmering dal tadka is ready to serve.

7. Enjoy it with jeera rice or roti. I love to enjoy it with jeera rice; it’s a yummy combo.
