How To Make Dahi Vada

The dahi vada recipe is very simple and quick to make. All you need to do is soak urad dal (black lentils) in water overnight, coarsely grind it with a little water, and add minced ginger, green chilies, and curry leaves to the batter. then add curd and sugar to the mixture. The batter should be thick enough so that you can shape it into round balls before deep frying them. The detailed instructions are given below.

  • Take 1 cup of urad daal in a bowl wash and strain by adding water. Then soak urad dal for a minimum of 5 hrs.
  • After 5 hrs, transfer urad dal to a grinding jar and coarse grind by adding 2 tablespoons of water. Transfer to a bowl.
  • Add salt to the batter and mix in one direction for 10 minutes. The batter turns fluffy and light.
  • To check the consistency drop the batter in water and if it is floating on top. The batter is ready.
  • Next, to the batter add 1 tablespoon of minced ginger, 1 tablespoon of green chili, and curry leaves, mix well and the batter is ready to fry.
  • Wet your hand and take a small quantity of batter make it round and drop in hot oil with medium flame. repeat the process one by one.
  • Fry vada until golden color and remove from oil and transfer to a plate.
  • Now take 2 cups of water in a bowl and add salt, 2 pinch asafoetida and mix well. Soak bhallas in water and allow them to stay for 15 minutes.
  • Take 2 cups curd in a bowl and add 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar. Mix well sweet curd is ready.
  • After soaking, gently press the ballas between palms to remove excess water and place them on a setting tray. Then pour the dahi over bhallas.
  • Pour green chutney, sweet tamarind chutney, and sprinkle a pinch of chaat masala, cumin powder, salt, chili powder, sev, and bhoondi over dahi bhallas.
  • Now chill and serve dahi bhallas, Enjoy. Thank you.

  • 1 tbsp Green Chili (Minced)

  • 2 cup Curd
  • 2 tbsp Powdered Sugar
  • Green chutney (For garnishing)
  • Sweet Tamarind Chutney (For garnishing)
  • 1 pinch Chaat Masala
  • 1 pinch Chili Powder
  • Sev and bhoondi (for garnishing)
